Summer League
The club typically enters 4 teams in the Colchester and District Summer League, one mens team, one ladies team and two mixed teams. Teams consist of 6 players with each of the 3 pairs playing the opposing 3 pairs over a long set to 8 games. The matches take place on weekday summer evenings, usually starting at 6.30pm. The last matches are in August because many clubs do not have floodlights and matches must therefore be completed in daylight. The home team provides a ‘tea’ after the matches. A small match fee for home matches is paid to cover balls and lights when necessary.
Winter League
The club runs a local Winter League, which has evolved as we have the benefit of floodlights. There are separate leagues for mens and mixed teams (no ladies teams in the winter). Teams consist of 4 players, either 4 men or 2 men and 2 ladies. Matches consist of playing 4 sets. In the mens matches, 2 sets are played against each of the other 2 pairs. In mixed matches, the men play the men (2 sets), the ladies play the ladies (2 sets), and each mixed pair plays it’s opposing pairs. A small match fee is collected on the match nights, Monday and Wednesday evenings, to cover balls and floodlights. The league runs from October through to March.
